Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended clash that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this marks the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million audience members on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English program in the country after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series drew over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership was 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball announced that the World Series was televised in 203 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
